The committed partners

Committed to the craft.Aligned for decades.

Pragmatic is an investment partnership, not a transaction. We contribute our research craft, contrarian discipline, judgment, and reputations, then stand beside investors whose trust, patience, and capital carry enduring missions.

The committed partners behind the investment partnership

Thinking in decades changes how you research, how you invest, and whose interests you choose to serve.

Complementary craft · Shared commitment

Different paths.One standard of truth.

We view an investment relationship as a long-duration joint venture. Capital reaches its greatest potential when committed partners do the deepest work and patient investors give insight time to compound.

Mark A. Jones, founder of Pragmatic Capital Management
01 · Committed Partner · Founder & Chief Investment Officer

Mark A. Jones, CPA (Inactive)

Mark loves investing and has made it his life’s work to use that passion in service of others. He sees investing as a complex puzzle at the intersection of business, psychology, and everyday life: a discipline that begins by asking why, then follows evidence beneath the visible story.

Before launching Pragmatic Capital Management in May 2019, Mark ran a research firm providing contrarian research to hedge funds. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Accounting from the University of Pittsburgh, an MBA from Carnegie Mellon, and the CPA designation. That foundation in accounting rigor, quantitative inquiry, and lived curiosity shapes The Pragmatic Approach.

Since 2019, Mark has steered The Pragmatic Portfolio through a pandemic, historic inflation, trade conflict, wars, meme-stock speculation, and the fastest rate-hike cycle in four decades. Each regime tested the discipline in real time and turned The Pragmatic Approach from an idea into a tested, repeatable way of investing through the unprecedented.

Investing is his craft. Helping others through it is his life’s work.

Dario Cabrera

Dario loves investigating complex questions and has built his career at the intersection of science, business, and investing. Inspired by chemistry, genetics, and evolutionary biology, he approaches research by examining mechanisms, tracing cause and effect, and asking how systems respond to competition and change—all in pursuit of what is actually true.

Before joining Pragmatic Capital Management, Dario worked across biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals in commercial forecasting, market research, competitive intelligence, and technology licensing. He holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.A. in Biochemistry from Harvard University, and a B.S. in Biochemistry from Arizona State University.

At Pragmatic, Dario applies that analytical framework across industries. Combining deep fundamental research with quantitative analysis and commercial judgment, he challenges assumptions, uncovers overlooked signals, and distinguishes exceptional businesses from merely interesting ones. His goal is to build conviction from evidence rather than consensus and pursue the best opportunities wherever they emerge.

Follow the evidence until the story becomes undeniable.
